We need to admit something; we like to spoil our dogs a little bit. Ok, a lot – they are our babies after all! Because of this, we want them to be healthy in many ways, including what they eat.
If you feel the same way and are looking to make a special treat for your dog without spending hours in the kitchen, these three ingredient homemade dog treats are where it’s at. They will get you in-and-out of the kitchen and have your fur baby begging for me.
We have made more complicated treats in the past that involve bacon and other ingredients, the dog loved it, but they took us an hour or more to make.
So the fact these homemade dog treats only contain oatmeal, peanut butter, and banana is fantastic! Plus, you quite possibly already have the ingredients in your house.
The whole process including prep and baking can be done in 30 minutes or less. To start, throw your uncooked oatmeal in a food processor and grind until powder. Before adding to the ground oats, mash your banana and peanut butter until smooth.
Once combined, roll the mixture into a “dough” ball and use a cookie cutter to create the treat. You can get creative with this part! They make some super cute dog themed cookie cutters! We only had a round cutter and to be honest our dog didn’t seem to mind the circular shape – he still chowed down!
We were really happy with how these turned out, and yes we ate one (maybe two). You have to sample your work!
Three Ingredient Homemade Dog Treats
- ½ cup peanut butter
- 1 ½ cups oatmeal uncooked
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Blend your oats until they are in powder form. In a separate bowl combine the banana and peanut butter and mash together until smooth.
Reserve about 1 tablespoon of ground oats and then add the rest to the banana mixture and mix until combined. It will look like a dough ball.
Spread the 1 tablespoon of ground oats on the counter and roll out your dough to about a ¼ inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes and place on the parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Bake for approximately 15 minutes, the edges of the treats will start to brown. Cool completely and store in an air tight container.
