When it comes to bathing your dog, it’s important to use shampoos that are good for their skin. Dog shampoo for sensitive skin are specially made for a dog’s sensitivity or allergies, and many work rather well for all kinds of dogs.

Store-bought allergy shampoos can get expensive, and to be honest, it’s hard to know what they are truly made with. There are plenty of homemade dog shampoo for sensitive skin that requires little work but has great results. We have laid out a great allergy dog shampoo below.

Reasons for Sensitive Skin:

Quite often, the sensitive skin comes from allergies. Some of these may be common in your dog’s breed, or some may be a problem for just your dog.

In any case, most allergies come with skin conditions that need to be treated. Treating the symptoms without knowing the problem, however, can possibly lead to more issues, so it’s good to figure out the root cause of your dog’s sensitivities.

Flea Allergies: There are dogs that are allergic to flea saliva. It’s a rather common condition among dogs, but can be a major irritant, especially if the dog isn’t washed often.

Rash-like redness and swelling can occur around bites, depending on the severity of the allergy. Proper washing and flea repellent is the best way to combat this problem.

Environmental Allergies: Plants–usually seasonal–can cause issues for your dog as well. Clean food and water will help with this issue, as well as proper, consistent bathing.

Keep an eye on your dog’s skin and look for lesions, itchy or dry skin or rashes. If your dog is continually scratching, pay attention and bathe them more often.

Food Allergies: There are some foods that may cause allergic reactions in your dog. The symptoms of food allergies are generally itchy or oozing skin, coughing and sneezing, irritated eyes, inflamed ears, swollen paws, and nasal discharge.

Your dog will be highly uncomfortable, and knowing exactly what is causing the problem is a good way to ensure that it won’t happen again. Your vet can help greatly in this area.
